I gathered Interviewees who enjoyed traveling ...

“I think planning a trip for me is a big stressor and burden because of my already busy schedule”
“I value aesthetics and things that can be curated specifically to my tastes and plans”
“I plan trips with my friends and I am always looking for something that consolidates information and is easy to use as a group”
I conducted the research through 5 User interviews. I developed the questions for the interviews based on the fact that we were to create a travel application and I knew that I wanted to focus on the planning process of traveling. I found that people tend to feel overwhelmed when it came to planning trips especially when it’s with multiple people. Some apps that try to alleviate this problem include tripadvisor, wonderlog, and tripsy. While all three have their differences and similarities, all of them include the option to help you plan your trip.
Affinity Diagram

After conducting the initial user interviews synthesized through users we felt fit our user persona, we were able to gather data and organize it into an affinity map that is pictured below. We were able to draw what people found to be the most important while traveling and the ones we were most interested in is “health/safety”, “planning pain points”, and “values regarding travel”
Competitive Analysis
examining 3 travel apps

I compared three travel apps. A bigger travel company (Tripadvisor) to two smaller ones (Wanderlog and Tripsy). I wanted to evaluate the usability of each app while also assessing how quickly I could get through each onboarding process. I also wanted to evaluate the features available in each app that were there to assist in the travel planning process for users.
Tripadvisor & Tripsy
Both have very simple and intuitive onboarding process
Had short survey questionnaire for personalization
Wanderlog
Very appealing and fun User Interface
Has AI helper feature and the ability to invite friends

Findings
Through conducting the Competitor analysis I realized that there are many travel apps out there that also offer a feature to help plan your trip. What would set Safe Travels apart is the feature that it basically will take all of the participants information and give them 3 options for everything requested. It would give them links to pay directly through the app and it will automatically save the information in the app so they can use it as a form of confirmation as well.
User’s Motivation

The Motivation of the user for this app is to have a fully planned trip without having to do the work that traditionally comes with planning a trip. It makes it quick, simple, and gives quality suggestions that align with the request
With all the research I gathered I created the user, meet.....

User’s Flow

After I pin-pointed who our target user would be and successfully created a persona I determined a happy path for the user to tackle their pain-point through the introduction of Safe Travels so that our user could reach their desired destination. For this happy path the objective for our user was to...
Our user to get through the onboarding process
Our user to be able to send a message to the Virtual Travel Agent
Our user to get a response from the virtual travel agent
Our user to favorite or save a response
Using the user flow I created I was able to create a Journey map for the user that
illustrates a likely user scenario the user would go through and how Safe Travels
can help alleviate the pain-points associated with travel planning

Given our User’s scenario I created a storyboard to illustrate Janice’s dilemma
and how she was able to fix it...

Janice has just finished work and was sitting at her computer when she suddenly gets an idea to go to New Orleans for a vacation.
She calls her three best friends to ask them if they want to come and they all agree
Janice and her three friends start looking on the internet for hotels, accommodations, flights, and activities for when they get to New Orleans. They quickly get overwhelmed and burned out since they had all finished a long day at work.
Janice gets frustrated and starts looking for a resource to make the planning process easier since they all got stressed trying to plan together.
She finds a new app called the Safe Travel app that is suppose to address the tediousness of planning your own trips and acts as a virtual travel agent
Janice and her friends all give her one suggestion to put as a prompt in the app and it returns a full itinerary of everything they wanted and they were all very happy and relieved
